Senior bureaucrat Amit Sharma on Tuesday conducted a comprehensive review of preparations for Census 2027 across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, focusing on readiness for field operations, financial processes, and public awareness initiatives.
Sharma, who serves as Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director of Census Operations (DCO), chaired separate high-level meetings with officials from both regions to evaluate progress and identify areas requiring immediate attention ahead of the nationwide enumeration exercise.
Focus on Timely Execution and Coordination
During the review, Amit Sharma stressed the importance of adhering to timelines and ensuring seamless coordination between departments. He directed officials to expedite all pending financial processes to avoid delays in field operations.

Meanwhile, Madan Gopal Sharma, Nodal Officer for Census 2027 in Jammu & Kashmir, stated that funds have already been disbursed to most Principal Census Officers, with the remaining allocations to be released soon after reconciliation of past expenditure.
Officials highlighted that timely financial support is key to ensuring that preparatory activities, including recruitment and training of field staff, proceed without disruption.
Training of Field Functionaries
A significant portion of the discussions centered on training programmes for field personnel. According to officials, district-level training of Field Trainers is progressing as per schedule and is expected to be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
