Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation for several major dairy and cooperative initiatives in Ladakh, marking a significant step toward strengthening rural livelihoods and boosting the local economy.
The event, scheduled at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies in Leh, will bring together key stakeholders from the dairy and cooperative sectors, highlighting the government’s commitment to regional development under the ‘Sahkar se Samriddhi’ vision.
Infrastructure Development to Strengthen Dairy Sector
One of the key highlights of the initiative is the foundation stone laying of a 10-tonne-per-day dairy plant in Kargil. This facility is expected to significantly enhance milk processing capacity in the region, providing local farmers with better market access.
In addition, new curd and paneer production units will be inaugurated in Leh, further expanding the region’s dairy processing capabilities.
These projects aim to create a robust infrastructure base for the dairy sector in Ladakh, which has traditionally faced challenges due to its remote location and harsh climatic conditions.
Digital Empowerment Through Technology
A major component of the initiative is the launch of an Android-based Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) app. This digital platform is designed to enhance transparency in milk procurement and ensure timely payments to farmers.
By integrating technology into the cooperative framework, the government aims to modernize traditional practices and improve efficiency in the dairy value chain.
Improving Quality and Storage Capabilities
The introduction of bulk milk cooler systems will play a crucial role in preserving milk quality during storage and transportation. This is particularly important in regions like Ladakh, where temperature variations can impact product quality.
Additionally, a mobile milk testing laboratory will be deployed to ensure quality standards are maintained at every stage of the supply chain.
Market Access and Cooperative Growth
Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed among stakeholders to strengthen marketing and distribution networks for dairy products. These agreements aim to provide local producers with better access to markets and improve income opportunities.
The cooperative model is expected to play a central role in driving sustainable growth in the region, empowering farmers and promoting inclusive development.
Recognition of Local Farmers
During the event, progressive dairy farmers from the region will be honoured for their contributions. This recognition is intended to encourage best practices and inspire others to adopt modern techniques.
