UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony in Assam and said the state would achieve new heights in governance, security and cultural renaissance.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday expressed confidence that Assam would scale “new heights in security, good governance and cultural renaissance” under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who took oath for another term as Chief Minister during a grand swearing-in ceremony in Guwahati.
The high-profile event, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and several senior National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders, marked the formal beginning of the BJP-led alliance government’s third consecutive term in Assam.
Yogi Adityanath arrived in Guwahati to participate in the oath-taking ceremony held at the Veterinary Ground in Khanapara, where Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office to Himanta Biswa Sarma and newly inducted ministers.
Ahead of the ceremony, Yogi Adityanath and Rajnath Singh visited the revered Kamakhya Temple and offered prayers. The temple, considered one of the most important Shakti Peethas in India, has deep spiritual significance in Assam and across the country.

In a post on social media platform X, Yogi Adityanath congratulated all ministers who took oath in the new Assam government and said he was confident that the administration would work toward building a “Developed Assam, Prosperous Assam and Secure Assam.”
“Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the esteemed dignitaries who took oath for ministerial positions in Assam today. I am fully confident that all of you will be committed to the cause of public welfare and to building a ‘Developed Assam-Prosperous Assam-Secure Assam’. May the grace of Maa Kamakhya make your tenure illustrious—this is my prayer,” the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister wrote.
In another message, Yogi Adityanath praised Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership and said Assam would emerge as a global centre showcasing a unique blend of heritage and development.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma Ji on taking the oath of office as Chief Minister of Assam once again. I am fully confident that, under the successful guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji, the ‘Ashtalakshmi’ vision will gain new momentum through your dedicated efforts,” he said.
He further added that under Sarma’s “resolute leadership,” Assam would strengthen its position in the fields of governance, development, security and cultural identity.
“Assam will become a global center for the unique harmony of heritage and development. From the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, may the resolve for Antyodaya be fulfilled, and may Assam scale new heights in security, good governance, and cultural renaissance—this is my prayer to Maa Kamakhya,” Yogi Adityanath stated.
The swearing-in ceremony witnessed participation from senior BJP leaders, Union ministers, chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, underlining the political importance of Assam within the BJP-led NDA framework.
Apart from Himanta Biswa Sarma, four legislators also took oath as ministers in the Assam cabinet. These included Rameswar Teli, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora, and Charan Boro.
Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora and Charan Boro were members of the previous Himanta Biswa Sarma cabinet as well, while Rameswar Teli, who earlier served as a Union minister, marked his return to active state politics through the new cabinet.
The portfolios of the newly sworn-in ministers had not been officially announced till the time of reporting.
The event represented the continuation of the NDA’s political dominance in Assam, where the BJP-led alliance secured a decisive victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
The BJP, along with its allies including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), retained power comfortably in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly.
Political observers view the NDA’s third consecutive term as evidence of the BJP’s continued consolidation in the Northeast under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has emerged as one of the party’s most influential regional leaders.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at the ceremony further highlighted the strategic importance of Assam in the BJP’s broader national and northeastern political roadmap.
The BJP leadership has consistently projected Assam as a model of development and governance in the Northeast, particularly in areas such as infrastructure expansion, connectivity, tourism, welfare delivery, investment promotion and law-and-order management.
During the election campaign, Himanta Biswa Sarma prominently highlighted the achievements of the NDA government, including development of roads, bridges, healthcare institutions, educational infrastructure and industrial projects.
The BJP also emphasised welfare schemes implemented through coordination between the Centre and state governments, often describing it as the “double-engine government” model.
According to a statement issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, Yogi Adityanath received a traditional welcome upon his arrival in Guwahati. Local artists performed cultural dances and musical presentations at the airport as supporters greeted the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister with slogans and applause.
The statement said Yogi Adityanath acknowledged the crowd with folded hands and expressed gratitude for the warm reception.
The ceremony venue at Khanapara’s Veterinary Ground was decorated extensively ahead of the oath-taking event, while security arrangements were tightened due to the presence of several senior national leaders and dignitaries.
Union ministers including Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal and Pabitra Margherita were also present at the event.
The BJP leadership has described Assam’s electoral verdict as an endorsement of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and the governance record of the Himanta Biswa Sarma administration.
Political analysts believe the NDA’s renewed mandate provides the Assam government with continuity in policy implementation, especially in sectors linked to industrial development, tourism, infrastructure, digital governance and regional connectivity.
The new government is also expected to continue efforts to strengthen Assam’s role within India’s Act East policy and enhance economic links with Southeast Asian nations through improved transport and trade infrastructure.
The repeated emphasis by BJP leaders on “cultural renaissance” in Assam reflects the party’s broader ideological positioning in the Northeast, where cultural identity, heritage preservation and regional aspirations have become central political themes.
Yogi Adityanath’s remarks about the “Ashtalakshmi vision” referred to the BJP’s development narrative for the northeastern states, often collectively described as “Ashtalakshmi,” symbolising prosperity and strategic importance.
Supporters of the NDA government argue that Assam has witnessed major changes under BJP rule, including improvements in governance, anti-corruption measures, investment inflows and public infrastructure.
Opposition parties, however, continue to raise concerns over unemployment, inflation, social tensions and minority issues in the state. Despite criticism from rivals, the NDA’s electoral victory suggests continued public backing for the alliance.
As the new government begins its fresh term, attention is now expected to shift toward cabinet expansion, policy priorities and implementation of electoral promises made during the campaign.
The swearing-in ceremony has also reinforced Himanta Biswa Sarma’s growing stature within the BJP’s national leadership structure, with many political observers viewing him as one of the party’s key faces in the Northeast.
