Delhi Morning Weather Changes: Sudden Rain, Winds Bring Relief; Clouds Likely for Two Days

Cloudy skies and rain in Delhi morning weather change

Delhi morning weather changes bring rain, winds and relief from heat; IMD forecasts cloudy skies and thunderstorms for the next two days.

A sudden shift in weather conditions brought relief to residents of New Delhi on Wednesday morning, as strong winds, lightning and brief spells of rain replaced the recent spell of intense heat across the national capital and nearby regions.

Areas across Delhi-NCR, including Noida and Ghaziabad, witnessed similar conditions, with cloudy skies and cooler temperatures marking a sharp contrast to the previous day’s heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also released satellite imagery indicating the movement of cloud systems over northern India.

Cloudy Skies and Rain Likely to Continue

According to IMD forecasts, Delhi-NCR is expected to remain under cloudy conditions for the next two days, with the possibility of light rainfall and thunderstorms. Gusty winds and lightning activity may also accompany these weather changes.

Despite the shift, temperatures are expected to remain relatively high. The maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to hover between 37°C and 39°C, while the minimum may stay between 26°C and 28°C. On Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum of 39.2°C and a minimum of 28.4°C.

Weather experts suggest that such fluctuations are typical during seasonal transitions, especially as pre-monsoon activity begins to intensify across parts of the country.

Thunderstorm and Wind Alerts Across Multiple States

The IMD has issued alerts for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h across several states, including:

  • Madhya Pradesh
  • Karnataka
  • Kerala
  • Chhattisgarh
  • Jammu and Kashmir
  • Ladakh
  • Vidarbha

These conditions are part of a broader weather system influencing large parts of central, southern and northern India.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast in Northeast India

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in several northeastern states, including:

  • Assam
  • Meghalaya
  • Nagaland
  • Manipur
  • Mizoram
  • Tripura
  • Sikkim

In addition, parts of West Bengal may also experience significant rainfall during the day.

Hailstorm Warning in Hill States

Isolated hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in hilly regions such as:

  • Himachal Pradesh
  • Uttarakhand

Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain cautious, particularly during outdoor activities.

Relief from Heatwave, But Not for Long

The sudden change in Delhi’s weather has provided temporary relief from rising temperatures. However, IMD officials indicate that conditions are expected to stabilise by the weekend, with heat levels likely to rise again.

Meteorologists note that such intermittent rain and cloud cover during late April are often linked to western disturbances and pre-monsoon developments, which can cause short-term cooling followed by a return to warmer conditions.

Outlook

While the cloudy weather and light rain have brought a welcome break from the heat in Delhi-NCR, residents are advised to stay alert for sudden thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next 48 hours. Weather conditions are expected to return to normal patterns soon, with temperatures gradually climbing as the summer season progresses.
